Ever wanted to learn how to Tunisian crochet? This seedling blanket is perfect for gaining skills and finally learning Tunisian crochet once and for all!

What is tunisian crochet?

I’ve always liked to describe Tunisian crochet as if knitting and crochet were to have a baby.

It’s a lot of fun and creates such amazing textures with an elongated crochet hook.

I know this might seem too difficult to try but rest assured, you can totally do this! I have even created a fun tutorial for you to be able to follow right along!

What You Need To Create This Tunisian Crochet Blanket:

  • Tunisian crochet hook: 6mm (get the same set I use HERE)
  • 2500yrds – Acrylic Yarn or size 4 yarn of your choosing (I used Caron 1 POUND)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Pattern Notes:

  • TSS – Tunisian simple stitch
  • TPS – Tunisian purl stitch
  • TKS – Tunisian knit stitch
  • SRR – Standard Reverse Row

GAUGE: 4 sts X 8 rows (includes forward & backwards pass) = 1” squared

Don’t feel like you need to work in only three colors. Take the creative freedom to use however many colors you would like!

I would love to see this blanket made in a beautiful rainbow or even a monochromatic color scheme.

Tag me if you do!! @yarnhookneedles

The Pattern: Throw/Twin Size (39″x74″)

CH 156 (we will begin with the tunisian knit stripe)

***For the Tunisian Knit Stripe:

R1 – In the 2nd CH from the hook place a TKS (tunisian knit stitch) ***Remember, the loops remain on your hook for the forward pass*** In each stitch all the way across, place one TKS in each space.

R2 – SRR (standard reverse row) YO, pull through one loop on your hook. *YO, pull through two loops on your hook. * Repeat from * to * ending with one loop remaining on your hook.

R3 – TKS in each stitch all the way across. (forward pass)

R4 – SRR (backwards pass)

R5 – R20: repeat rows 3 & 4 to complete the Tunisian Knit Stripe(s)

CHANGE COLORS

***For the Tunisian Seed Stitch Stripe:

R21 – *TSS into the next stitch. TPS into the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * all the way across ending with a regular tunisian stitch in the last space. ((watch video link to see exactly how to work this stitch))

R22 – SRR

R23 – R40: repeat rows 3 & 4 to complete the Tunisian Seed Stripe(s)

CHANGE COLORS

For the remainder of the pattern, your will alternate between the tunisian knit stripe and the tunisian seed stripe for a total of 20 rows each time. When you are done you should have 29 stripes and have completed 580 rows.

Remember, you will want to change colors after each set of 20 if you are wanting to have the color changing look to your blanket.

Doing exactly as she did: TSS, TP, TSS, TP, repeat. Next row TP, TSS, TP, TSS, repeat. Next row TSS, TP, TSS, etc. Ends up honeycomb stitch EVERY TIME.
Seed stitch is TK, TP, TK, TP, etc. Next row TP, TK, TP, TK, etc.
