Do you love earwarmer pattern?

I have seen some really adorable ones and this design came from a desire to create an earwarmer that was fast, didn’t use up a lot of yarn and was cute!

The Moss Stitch is a go-to stitch when I’m making statement pieces like scarves, cowls and my latest slouchy beanie hat with a pompom.

Why This Ear Warmer Pattern is the BEST!

This ear warmer worked up in less than 20 minutes! That is one bright side to patterns that use larger hooks and chunky yarns.

Ideas for using this pattern:

  • last minute gifts
  • market prep items
  • selling in an online shop
  • having lots of accessory options for yourself or kids/grandkids

THE PERFECT BOW EAR WARMER

MATERIAL:

  • 1 skein Lion Brand Woolease Thick n Quick (buy some here!)
  • 9MM hook (buy one here)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

 SPECIALTY STITCH:

This ear warmer features the moss stitch. The moss stitch consists of SCs, CH 1 and skipping a stitch. ***watch the video tutorial for further instructions***

 PATTERN NOTES:

If you want to adjust the size on this ear warmer, you need to be sure you maintain an odd number of stitches in order for the moss stitch to work out correctly.

You are also going to create the ear warmer as a long rectangular piece that you will seam together and then gather into a bow shape and secure into place.

PATTERN SIZES:

As the pattern is written, the ear warmer should comfortably for 18” – 20” circumference heads.

Refer to the pattern notes for instructions on how to adjust the pattern larger or smaller.

 GAUGE IS: 2.5sts X 2.5rows = 1” squared

 THE PATTERN:

CH 57

Row 1 – In the 3rd CH from the hook place a SC. *CH 1 – Skip 1. SC into the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * ending with a SC in the last CH 1 space. CH 2. Turn.

Row 2 – (CH 2 counts as SC, CH 1) *SC into the next CH 1 space. CH 1, Skip 1.* Repeat from * to * ending with a SC in the last CH 1 space. CH 2. Turn.

Row 3 – (CH 2 counts as SC, CH 1) *SC into the next CH 1 space. CH 1, Skip 1.* Repeat from * to * ending with a SC in the last CH 1 space. CH 2. Turn.

 Row 4 – 12: repeat row 3. (don’t tie off yet)

***watch the video tutorial for more visual assistance in the pattern***

SEAMING THE ENDS TOGETHER:

Taking the edges, you will line them together and SC the ends together.

Then, you will tie off the seam leaving a long enough tail to gather and wrap the center at least 10xs to create the “bow”.

Once you gather the top and bottom edges (right on the seam) you will want to begin wrapping as tightly as you can so as to ensure the bow effect stays nice and tight.

After you’re done wrapping, you will take your tapestry needle and “sew” it behind the knot you made with the wrapping of the yarn. Weave in and out several times and then snip your tail as close to the knot as possible.
