PATTERN NOTES:
I did make the brim for this beanie longer than some of my other ones. The reason for this is to give you the option of wearing the brim folded over or to leave it longer for an exaggerated slouchy look.
Please see the BRIM RIBBING section below the video tutorial for custom sizing info.

That’s it!

hi, i am currently making this beanie. I do not understand the Round 4 means. Can you explain it more specifically?
Sure!
This is where your cable is going to begin forming. When you get to the FPDC stitches you are going to skip the first 2 FPDCs and then you place 2 FPTCs into the next 2 FPDCs. Then, working behind the 2 sts you just made you place 2 FPTCs into the skipped FPDCs. Then begin working forward again!
It’s gonna look weird initially because the cables aren’t totally formed. But after a few rounds, it will look right!
Let me know if you’re still having issues.
These are beautiful hats! I make hats for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Atlanta, GA and these patterns will give me lots of variety. Thank you so much!
That’s so awesome! I am planning a charity project for the Fall. I will have the details soon so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the info in case you want to participate!
This beanie is just what I am looking for – thank you. What size does this make? How many chain stitches do I start with if I want to make an adult, women’s size?
Thank You!
This size is basically for a child/teenager. Simply add a few more stitches (while maintaining the correct multiple) and you should get the right size. Typically the circumference for n adult head is about 20in. Just remember the yarn will stretch with the ribbing on this one so you might not need to add too many more to reach an adult size. Let me know if you need and more help!
Do you have this in knit patterm
I don’t currently, however, I am working on adding some knit cable beanies to my patterns!
For row 5 do you skip the first 2 stitches and work back like row 4?
Hi Shelley, No, you’ll want to work row 5 the same as row 3. Row 4 is the only row that has you working forward/backward. Please feel free to join our Facebook group if you have any more questions. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/109380736230440/
Just finished my first Owen Beanie! I absolutely love it! I used the suggested Lion Brand Heartland yarn and a J 6.00 mm hook. So pleased with the softness and warmth this beanie provides. Thank you for a lovely tutorial and pattern. I will definitely be making more of this one! 🙂
Thank you so much Shelly! You are so sweet and I’m so glad you like it!
Do you have the pattern gauge for this project? I crochet very tightly so it’s usually important for me to to a gauge swatch before I start or things turn out too small.
Can you tell me how many yards or skeins of yarn it takes to make this pattern?
