Are you new to crochet? Maybe you’re looking for a quick project to work on over the weekend? This easy crochet beanie is the perfect pattern for you!
I have been using more and more hand-dyed yarns in my designs and I had the pleasure of working with some absolutely exquisite yarn to create this beanie.
I wanted something which I felt would look great on both guys and gals! This colorway and style was the perfect solution.

PATTERN NOTES:
This particular pattern is worked flat and then seamed together to create a tube. The top is then sewn closed to help give the beanie a more fitted look with a slight slouch.
All you must know how to do is the single crochet stitch.
SIZING:
There are two sizes available for this beanie – child’s size and adult
If you find you need to make slight adjustments to fit your customer, simply add more rows or take some away.
Sizes are written as follows –
child (adult)
MATERIALS USED:
- 1 skein of worsted weight superwash merino wool in the colorway swallow purchased from the indie dyer: noblecharactercrafts
- 5MM hook (my favorite hooks)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Faux fur pompom (optional)
THE PATTERN:
CH 30 (36)
R1 – In the second chain from the hook place a SC. Continue with SC all the way across. CH 1 turn.
R2 – (chain 1 counts as SC) place a SC into the back loop of each stitch all the way across. CH 1. Turn.
R3 – repeat row 2 for 64 rows (or as large as you need for an adult)
Once you’ve completed the rows you will SC the two ends together to create a tube.
After making the tube you will see together one of the ends to close the beanie. At this point you can wear as is or add your favorite Pom!

How do I sew together top of beanie? Thank you!
Julie
Hi Lucinda, Here is a link for a video tutorial on how to close up a beanie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjoAFrgK5lo
I’ve also updated the “pattern notes” section of the blog post to include this link. The closure method in this video is shown using a crochet hook, but you can also use a tapestry needle. Thanks!
