Are you a part of the YarnHookNeedles Facebook group? If not, head over and join! We recently voted on what we were all going to make together for the very first CAL (crochet-a-long) for 2017. Everyone decided on the African Flower Motif!
I am so excited to see how everyone designs their motifs!
If you’re not interested in the CAL for 2017, then let me teach you how to make the African Flower Hexi Motif.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 4 colors to work up different variations
- size I hook
- scissors
- tapestry needle
THE PATTERN:
Rnd 1 – Begin by creating a magic circle, CH 3, DC. *CH 2, DC, DC. Repeat from * until you have 6 sets of DC. Sl ST to the top of the CH 3. Tie off yarn and change your color.
Rnd 2 – Place your new color in a CH 2 space. CH 5, add 2 more DC into the same space. CH 1, *(2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC) into the next CH 2 space, CH 1. Repeat from * around. You will place one more DC into the space as your CH 5 and then SL ST to the top of the 3rd CH from the bottom.
Rnd 3 – CH 3 and place 6 DC into the CH 2 Space. SL ST into the (previous row) CH 1 space. *Place 7 DC into the next CH 2 space, SL ST in the next CH 1 space. Repeat from * around, SL ST to the top of the CH 3. Tie off and change your color.
Rnd 4 – CH 1. Place SC all the way around adding a “long” SC into the SL ST space of the previous round. SL ST to the CH 1. Tie off and change your color.
Rnd 5 – Starting in the center ST of each petal, count back 3 sts. Place your new yarn here and CH 3. Work the outer hexagon pattern like this: DC (Ch 3 counts as first DC), DC, DC, DC-CH 1-DC, DC, DC, DC, skip “long st” space. So you will have 4 DC, Ch 1, 4 DC, Skip a ST. (if this is confusing please refer to the video!) Once you are back around to the beginning, SL ST to the top of your first CH 3.

I am not attaching as I go BECAUSE this is a part of the YarnHookNeedles CAL (crochet-a-long) for 2017. I want my hexis all made and then I will play around with how I want to arrange them. I do plan to use the invisible seam method.

VIDEO TUTORIAL:

In your second , the second part of second round , where you put the 7 dc, instead of a ch2 between each petal, shouldn’t that just be a sl st into the previous ch1 space. I did as the written words said on screen, did not look at all right. Then, I watch you, and you sl st into the ch1 space of the previous part of the round.
The written out pattern says the same thing, I may be wrong.
yes you are correct, it is a sl st into the CH 1 space! Great catch! 🙂
I am sorry, it said ch1 and repeat, not ch2.
