If you’re looking for a quick and easy crochet project for the weekend. Then you need to check out this super simple pattern for making the Elizabeth crochet throw!

Some friends of ours are celebrating the wedding of their daughter later this month. I knew I wanted to make something cozy for the couple’s new home and I thought, “What’s better than a blanket to curl under?”. This is how the Elizabeth throw was born!

If you are new here then you might have missed my video tutorial post where I taught you how to do the crochet moss stitch.

CHECK OUT THAT VIDEO BELOW!

Once you watch that video you will be ready to make this throw!

WHAT I USED:

  • 11 skeins of YarnBee yarns Denim in Color “olive” from HobbyLobby
  • size N hook
  • scissors
  • tapestry needle

Like I said this pattern is SUPER simple! Depending on how quickly you crochet, you will be able to create this over a weekend easily.

This pattern is written in U.S crochet terms.

THE PATTERN:

CH 144

Row 1 – In the 4th CH from the hook, you will add a SC. Then you will continue along the completing the moss stitch (REFER TO VIDEO LINK ABOVE)

Rows 2 – 58: are the moss stitch working each row.

Rows 59 – 60: are the moss stitch using a HDC instead of a SC stitch

Rows 61 – 119: are the moss stitch working each row.

Rows 120 – 121: are the moss stitch using a HDC instead of a SC stitch

Rows 122 – 178: are the moss stitch working each row.

After the last row (178) you will then tie off and weave in your ends! At this point you can add a border if you desired or you could add large pompoms or tassels on each corner. Or, you could leave it just like it is!

As you can see, this is an easy pattern, but it still produces a LOVELY product! Want to make a larger or smaller version?

Thank you for the video tutorial and written pattern for the Elizabeth Throw using the moss stitch. I like the close weave of the moss stitch and will be making this throw for my new grandbaby due in November. The classy look and tight weave make a beautiful blanket for a baby.

In the video, you start the sc in the 4th chain, but in the pattern, you say to sc in the 3rd chain. Should I follow the video or the written pattern? Thanks for your help.

I plan on using a bulky yarn (#5) with possibly a J or K crochet needle. I just bought 21 skeins of yarn (106 yards per skein) Do you think this is enough yarn to make a nice size blanket? Maybe 50×60 or so? ? thanks for the pattern. I just ordered some merino wool/bulky. I may use the same pattern for it. I invested $175 for 18 skeins. (The MOST I’ve ever spent on yarn)
    I hope I bought enough!! ?

I can’t find the “demin” in the Yarn Bee. Is this a worsted weight 4 yarn size?

So glad you like it! The MM for an N hook is 9 or 10 depending on the brand you use. I believe for Boye it is a 9MM

    Hi,

I love this pattern and really want to make this blanket. I purchased the Yarn Bee Yarn-Denim in Color and the package says to use a sz K crochet hook but you used a sz N hook. Is there going to be a difference? I notice the K hook is 6.5mm vs. the N hook being 9mm. Do you have any advice on how to proceed? Thanks!!

Hi Amanda, The 9mm hook will lend itself to a looser stitch and more drape. Happy Crocheting!

Hi, I want to make this for my daughter but the YarnBee Denim in Color has been discontinued. Can you give me the total yardage that you used so I can order enough of a substitute yarn? Thanks
