Happy July 1st friends!
Recently I posted on Instagram some exciting news. I shared with those of you who follow me over there, FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM HERE , that I was planning to release 30 beanie patterns all throughout the month of July.
There are a few reasons why I am doing this.
- I know how busy life gets. I know that designing takes time, effort and lots of patience.
- I know there are many makers who work other jobs and don’t have a lot of extra time to dedicate to coming up with their own designs.
- I realize because of the lack of time, many makers who want to start their business, blog or Etsy shop can’t because of all of the above.
So, I decided I was going to equip you with SEVERAL design options to get the ball rolling for you!
Maker season hasn’t officially started yet so you should have plenty of time to create some inventory for yourself! All I ask is you credit the original designer if you decide to make any of these designs.
Today’s pattern is the Marley Beanie.
I really love this super slouchy beanie! It was my first slouchy beanie to design and I love how versatile it is! I had a few of my testers make children’s sizes. You will quickly see how easily adjustable these designs will be.
Tools:
– size K hook (6.5mm)
-yarn size 4
-tapestry needle
-scissors
Terms:
-CH (chain)
-SC (single crochet)
-HDC (half double crochet)
-SLST (slip stitch)
-HDC2TOG (half double crochet 2 together)
You will start the hat from the bottom up. First, you will create the ribbing. This pattern is written for an adult but can be easily adjusted for any size. Simply add to or take away the rows of ribbing keeping in mind the ribbing will stretch!
THE MARLEY BEANIE
The ribbing: CH7
ROW 1- SC in the 2nd CH from the hook. SC all the way across, CH 1 and turn.
ROW 2- SC in the back loop all the way across. CH 1, turn.
ROW 3-60: repeat row 2.
At the end of row 60, making sure not to twist the ribbed ban. Bring the ends together and attach with a SL ST across to join. Then, you will turn the band where the seam is on the inside. From here, the pattern will be worked in the round.
The beanie part:
Round 1- CH 1, SC around in 90 STS, SL ST to CH 1
Round 2- *HDC in next ST, CH 2 and skip the next 2 STS. Repeat from * across ending with a SL ST to the CH 2. CH 2
Round 3- *2 DC in CH 2 space, CH 1. Repeat from * across ending with a SL ST to CH 2. CH 1
Round 4, 5, 6, 7- HDC all the way around. SL ST to CH 1. CH 1
Round 8-repeat round 2
Round 9- repeat round 3
Round 10, 11, 12, 13- repeat round 4
Round 14- repeat round 2
Round 15- repeat round 3
Round 16, 17, 18, 19- repeat round 4
Round 20- SC all the way around. Tie off leaving an extra long tail closing up and sewing the top of the hat.
Closing the beanie
Weave the long tail in and out of the SC. Then you will pull tightly to “close up” the top of the hat. Sew closed with remaining tail and weave in any other ends.

Thank you so much. Im excited to try all of the beanies you will be putting out. Im tired of the plain HDC ones. This one worked up really quick and was easy to follow.

Hiya!
Super excited to make this pattern but I do have one question, for the first row in the round you have CH1 and SC in 90 STS. I take it we just put stitches in on the 60 rows of the ribbing to make it look right? Also you have SL ST to the CH 2 at the end of the round, is that meant to be SL ST into the CH1 and then CH2?
Thanks for the help!

Hi Nae, You got it! You just work 90 single crochets around the band of 60 rows. And the SL ST to the CH 2 should be SL ST to the CH 1. Thanks for catching that, I have updated the pattern as well. Happy Crocheting!
