Learn How To Make A Pom Pom Beanie!
Happy Maker Monday Friends!
I’m so excited to share today’s maker with you! She has designed a cozy, comfy, pom-loving beanie to share with all of you! But, first say “hello” to our featured maker…
“Hi! My name is Carla, owner of Melanin Makes LLC. I am a single mother of two, who started crocheting as a form of therapy. Having to work 6 days a week to ensure that my children had everything they could ever want gave me little to no time for self-care; so I would crochet on my way to work or while the kids were napping. I’ve always dreamed of being able to quit my day job and stay home with my kids but was unable to until I decided to start my own business. I am now a full time business owner and homemaker, which allows me to spend more time with my children while fulfilling my dream. I love what I do, and I love being able to share that with others in the maker community.”

~Pattern Notes
Pattern is written in 3 sizes – sm, med, and adult. Medium and adult size instructions are in ( ).
Beanie is worked in rows and seamed together at the end. Always use stitch directly under ch 1 as first stitch – this helps to keep the edges straight. (Check out this video tutorial for a visual how-to.)
Pattern can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount of rows in the band and hat. Just make sure band has an even number of rows to follow the pattern.
LOVE ME POM BEANIE PATTERN:
Band:
Ch 5 (5, 6).
Row 1: Sc into second ch from the hook and every ch across. (4 or 5 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in BLO until end of row. (4 or 5 sc)
Row 3: Repeat 44 (50, 60) times.
Hat:
Ch 1 and flip work. You will now be working along the length of your band.
Row 1: Sc evenly into the side of each row, placing first sc under ch 1 you just did. You should end with 44 (50, 60) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Dc into first st {directly under ch 1}. Sk next st and dc into following st as shown below. Repeat crisscrossed dc until you have 1 st left. Place one dc into this st.
Row 3: Repeat row 2 until your hat is approximately 10.5 (12, 15 inches) including band.
Row 4: Ch 1 and turn. Hdc into the first stitch. Hdc2tog across until there is one st left. Hdc into the last stitch. Fasten off and leave a long tail to cinch top of hat.
Row 5: Fold hat in half. Beginning in 3rd (4th, 5th) row of the dc, use the mattress stitch [or your preference] to seam the length of hat. Do not cut yarn.
Row 6: Weave tail from row 4 through row of hdc2tog to tighten top of hat.
Pom-Pom:
Using pom-pom maker [or your preference] make up to 3 large pom-poms. You can attach one pom-pom to top of hat, and one pom-pom to each end of band (see pic below). I added a braided strand to hang the pom-poms from the band. Make it your own. Your beanie is now ready to wear. Enjoy!!
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE the look of this beanie with the added pom’s! So adorable!
