If you have been on ANY social media platform, you have for sure come across the messy bun beanie!

I have seen them everywhere and I finally gave in and decided to create one myself! I recently discovered an amazing US based wool company and today I am sharing with you, my honest thoughts and opinions as well as an opportunity to try this wool out for yourself for FREE!

First I will start by saying what I think about O-Wool and I’ll give you some links to go check out their shop for yourself! Then, I will share with you the pattern for the messy bun beanie and finally I will give you the instructions for entering this giveaway!

Sound good?

THE REVIEW

So I often will scroll through Etsy on my phone looking for inspiration as well as makers I can feature on my Maker Monday series. I also like to look for US based shops and see if there is a way I can utilize their talents. Whether it’s by buying a gift to give to someone else or if I can buy my supplies from a US seller I will do this as well!

Organic O-Wool Classic Worsted merino wool yarn

I found O-Wool and I will be honest when I say their photos had me drooling on my phone. The yarns were so luxurious and I wanted to be able to reach into the screen and give the skein squeeze!

My first thing was heading over to read the shop’s story. This is one of my most favorite things about Etsy. You have this unique opportunity to become connected to a maker and understand what it was that made them decide to put themselves out there as a maker.

Organic O-Wool O-Wash Fingering machine washable wool yarn

READ O-WOOL’S STORY HERE

I ordered two skeins not knowing what I was going to do with it. I just knew I wanted enough to REALLY make something!

One of the things I love about this yarn is that fact it is 100% Organic Certified Merino Wool! The price is AMAZING for all those factors!

I had shared on Instagram the fact I had ordered from O-Wool and another amazing maker commented they too had ordered from them and they were loving their skeins as well. It was neat to see someone else working with this amazing product.

After brainstorming I decided one skein would be enough to create a messy bun beanie and I was going to give the other skein away as a GIVEAWAY prize on my Instagram page.

WHAT I USED:

  • H hook
  • 1 skein of O-Wool Yarn in the Color Peacock
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

I want to make a note here before I copy down the pattern; I would say I have a larger head than most. So please know this pattern might be a little loose on you. However, if you’ve made beanies in the past then you can adjust this pattern to mimic another beanie pattern you’ve done before.

The biggest difference with this particular beanie style is creating a hole at the beginning which allows for you to be able to “feed” you hair or bun through.
