We are beginning a new series on the blog where I am featuring makers from around the world. These are folks who have inspired me in some way or another. People who I want to share with you!
You will be able to come back each week and meet a new face and be inspired yourself. Let’s dive in…
How do you pronounce your name? + a little story about where you’re from
My name is Aki and pronounced” Ah-key”. I am from Japan and moved to the US about 15 years ago after marrying the love of my life.
When did you decide you wanted to be a maker? Why?
I started crocheting in 2014 and I have no idea why I chose to crochet to this day…but I have to say my mom must have influenced me because I grew up watching her knitting, crocheting, sewing
and cross stitching. She tried to teach me when I was young but I wasn’t interested at all at that time. When I suddenly wanted to learn how to crochet, I lived seven thousand miles away from her.
I learned how to crochet from some talented crochet bloggers and YouTubers. They’ve inspired me a lot and I’m so thankful for that. I wanted to show my appreciation by making patterns and sharing them for
free.
What inspired your first design?
The first pattern I created is “Easy shoulder cozy/cowl” and inspired by Lion Brand Mandala yarn. When I saw the yarn for the first time, I instantly wanted to make something I could wear every day at work.
What are your favorite tools to work with?
Clover Amour crochet hook. I use 5mm a lot, like a lot!
What is your favorite yarn?
It’s very hard to choose just one but my favorite is Caron Simply Soft!!
What is one crochet pattern you can’t wait to make?
“Peasant Top” by Hooked on homemade happiness
The designer is Breann and all her patterns are so cute!! This summer is on the top of my list!!
BE SURE TO FOLLOW AKI ON HER BLOG AS WELL AS HER SOCIAL MEDIA!
Aki is currently back home in Japan. She is updating her IG stories with shots from her travels too. How fun to get a glimpse into a country most of us might never see!
