Today I am sharing with you the third piece in the YarnHookNeedles summer crochet series! I have been having so much fun diving into the world of garment design. It has stretched me as a designer and I am so humbled by the feedback from my first two pieces.

CHECK OUT THE FIRST TWO PIECES BELOW!

The Twiggy Top

The Adeline Top

Much like my first two designs I wanted to ensure this piece was easily adjustable for a woman of any size! If you saw my Twiggy Video Tutorial you noticed the top was made in a single piece.

The Liberty Crop Top is the same way, made in one solid piece and then seamed together on the sides. This type of design allows you to take simple measurements of yourself, crochet the correct multiples (for width) and make your front and back panels the necessary lengths to easily fit your body.

This pattern can easily be adjusted to fit even little girls if you wanted!

What I Used:

  • size K hook
  • approximately 560 yards of size 4 yarn (for a size Large or size 10 jeans)
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

***this pattern will be worked in multiples of 4 + 4 with a 6-row repeat

THE PATTERN:

Chain 68

Row 1 – in the 4th chain from the hook you will place a HDC (half double crochet). Continue with HDCs all the way across. CH 3. Turn.

Row 2 – DC into the next st, CH 2 and skip the next st, * DC into the next st, CH 2 and skip the next st. Repeat from * across ending with a DC in each of the last two sts. CH 3. Turn

Row 3 – DC all the way across. ***be sure to place 1 DC into each of the CH2 spaces from the previous row. CH 3. Turn.

Row 4 – DC into the next st, FPDC (front post double crochet) around the previous row’s DC, * DC into the next st, FPDC. Repeat from * across ending with a DC in each of the last two sts. CH 3. Turn

Row 5 – DC all the way across. CH 3. Turn.

Row 6 – DC into the BACK LOOPS all the way across.

Rows 7 – 30: you will repeat rows 1-6. ***please note, if you’re making a different size you will need to base your rows on how long you need your front panel to be

HEAD HOLE

Row 31 – HDC all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

Row 32 – HDC in the next 17 sts, CH 34 while skipping the next 34 sts, HDC in the last 17 sts. CH 2. Turn.

Row 33 – HDC all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

BACK PANEL

Row 34 – 70: Repeat rows 1 – 6

Row 71 – sl st all the way across.

ARMHOLES

Here is where I recommend watching the Twiggy Top Video to understand (if you don’t) how to go about creating the armholes.

Measure from the top down 9 inches. With right sides together you will seam together the sides. Weave in your ends. Then you’re done!
