Crochet A Jumbo Acorn For FALL!

It’s FALL ya’ll!!!

That means its time to pull out the DIY crafts, yarn, glue gun and get to work!

So for this pattern, I knew I was wanting to make something that was an acorn. I thought about making a garland but then I started brainstorming…

I decided I was going to create an acorn large enough to be placed with other mantle decors. I love how it turned out! These beauties are extra big and perfect for using up scrap yarns as well as fun little pretend play items for kids.

MATERIALS:

  • I hook (5.50mm)
  • 2 colors of yarn
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors

PATTERN NOTES:

This pattern is very simple and can be worked up within 30 minutes. You could have a lot of fun and make bigger ones or smaller ones based on your hook size and yarn weight!

 

CROCHET TERMS:

CH  (chain)

SC (single crochet)

SL ST (slip stitch)

SC2TOG ( single crochet two together)

 

THE PATTERN:

ACORN BODY

Create a magic ring.

RND 1 – CH2. Place 8 SC in the ring. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 2 – CH 2. 2 SC in each ST. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 3 – CH 2. *2 SC in the next ST. SC in the next ST. Repeat from * around. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 4 – CH 2. *2 SC in the next ST. SC in the next 2 STS. Repeat from * around. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 5-10:  CH 2. SC in each ST. SL ST to the CH 2

RND 11 – CH 2 (1 SC in next ST, sc2tog) SL ST to the CH 2.

***this is the point where you’re going to add the stuffing

RND 12 – sc2tog

Tie off.

 

ACORN HAT

Create a magic ring.

RND 1 – CH 2. SC 8 in the ring. SL ST to CH 2.

RND 2 – CH 2. 2 SC in each ST. SL ST to CH 2.

RND 3 – CH 2. *(2 SC in next ST,  SC in next ST). Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 4 – CH 2. *2 (SC in the same ST. SC in next 5 STS). Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the CH 2.

RND 5-8: CH 2. SC in each ST around. SL ST to the CH 2.

 

Tie off (leave a long tail) and sew on the hat to the body with a tapestry needle.
