The Perfect Leggings Crochet Velvet Sweater
MATERIALS:
- 6MM hook
- 2 – 5 skeins of Bernat Velvet Yarn
- Tapestry Needle
PATTERN NOTES:
No matter what size you are making the stitch pattern is exactly the same. It’s a faux fisherman’s ribbing like you find whenever you are knitting.
The stitch is created by placing a SC into the back loop of each stitch on every row.
Please refer to the video if you are need more specific instructions on seaming, size adjustments etc.
Gauge: 3 sts X 2 rows = 1” squared (gauge follows body pattern stitching)

SEAMING:
When you are seaming this sweater you will start at the shoulders. Place both of the panels long ways like the graphic shows you below:
Leave appr. 8” (measured from the center out) for a child’s head.
Leave appr. 12” (measured from the center out) for an adult’s head.
Next you will add the sleeves. Take your sleeve panel and fold it in half and line it up with the shoulder seam you just created. You will then seam each sleeve on taken special care not to mess up the stitches and cause a gathering.
***refer to video for more visual help
Take the garment and fold it wrong side out with the armpits, cuffs and waist all lined up.
Start at the cuff and seam towards the armpit. Then begin at the waist and seam up towards the armpit being sure to overlap your sleeve stitches making sure you don’t leave any holes.
Cowl attachment.
Turn the cowl right side out and place inside the head hole of the sweater.
Be careful to line everything up so there is no bunching. I recommend taking stitch markers to secure each corner to the edges of the shoulder seams.
Then you will simply add a SC round to attach the cowl to the body of the sweater.
Weave in your ends, turn right side out and enjoy!

Have you found the adult sizes to be accurate? I’m making the XL or 2x and the width of the front doesn’t seem to be enough to go around my body from side to side. I usually wear a 1x top. I’m judging from the center of the side of my torso.
Thanks
Jerica
Hi Joanne! I wasn’t able to tell if you are making the XL or the 2X. Could you clarify so I can be sure to assist you as best I can? 🙂 I did base the sizing off the craft yarn council standard body measurements and I created the width based on the largest bust size associated with each size. For example, the medium size bust is 36″ – 38″ and I figured the math off of 38″. If you’d like, feel free to email me: yarnhookneedles@gmail.com and we can figure this out together!

I have the same problem…I had to go up to size 7 hook and add rows…just for a medium
Jenny
Is there a sizing guide. I don’t know what size I should be making.
Sarah
Hi!
I am in the process of trying to make this sweater but seem to be a bit confused. I generally wear a size M (I am a 35″ bust). I have just finished my first body panel and have completed the 34 rows. It currently only measures 12″ across, which does not seem wide enough at all. How wide is one of your M body panels generally in inches? I believe I have to add a few rows but also don’t want it to be huge.
Thank you!!
Sarah

** Sorry my 38 rows** (Not 34)

I was planning on making this jumper in xl. Can you tell me how many balls of wool you would need. I was not clear on this number. Thanks So much.

Would it be possible to not do the cowl? I would love to make this without it.

I think I may have bought the wrong yarn! I have Bernat Blanket yarn. I started the sweater and seems very thick and heavy. What should I have purchased?
Heather Krisdyanto
Hi can you please tell me how many grams of wool I need as I’m not sure what a skein is thank you
Heather krisdyanto
How much is a skein in grams please our wool is 100g balls
Thank you

Lovely pattern! In the first photo, it looks like the front has a scooped shape at the bottom edge, though the pattern doesn’t reflect that. How many stitches did you add to make that shape? Thanks.
Jenny
Is there a size chart. I don’t know what size I should be making.
AdThrive User
Hi!
I use the craft yarn council size chart. I will be creating a size chart to accompany all garment designs in the future. Every garment I create I also design based off of the bust for the width of the garments.

I’m interested in how you rounded the hem. From this pattern, it appears to be written as a straight hem, different from the picture.
