DIY Garter Stitch Knit Blanket with FREE PATTERN!!!

I have been knitting for almost 2 years now. I honestly taught myself through a ton of trial and error as well as filtering through countless videos on YouTube.

Not every video tutorial is a good let me just say.

I knew I wanted to create a pattern that was simple but offered a ton of visual texture and was comfy too! If you’ve been here before and looked at any of my patterns I tend to choose certain things based off of how they look visually.

I decided to go with a 100% Wool yarn this time around. The gal I made this one for lives out on a farm. There will definitely be cold nights where having a snuggly blanket like this will be perfect for wrapping up her soon to arrive little one!

I really like the speckles of different colors that are sprinkled throughout this particular yarn as well.

Here is what I used:

  • size 13 needles
  • 4 skeins of yarn (purchased at Walmart)
  • Tapestry needle
  • scissors

I used the garter stitch which is literally one of the easiest stitches to use to create a blanket really fast! It’s just a knit stitch all the way across on both sides of the work!

You don’t even need to know how to purl!

It’s amazing because of how textured the work winds up looking yet you’re only doing the knit stitch.

The Pattern:

Cast on 72

R1 – Knit St all the way across

R2 – Knit St all the way across

***continue until you have added all 4 skeins of yarn! If you wanted to make this blanket a little longer so as to cover a toddler bed you could add on 6-8 skeins.

Now you tell me this isn’t a super simple knit blanket pattern!

Hello, I am looking to teach myself how to knit and want to start with a blanket. This looks like the perfect pattern! If you were to make this for an adult, how would you adjust the pattern? Double the cast?

I would love to make this blanket but I need to use size 8 circular needles. What yarn should I use and how many stitiches should I cast on.
    Thanks

I love this choice. I was looking at that yarn and couldn’t picture how it would look. Love it! I’ll be trying it next.
