Today I am sharing with you this super cute and adorable knit rugby beanie pattern. I was watching a movie one night and saw the actress wearing a similarly styled beanie.

I knew I wanted to create a knitting pattern which would be quick and easy for you all. I think you’ll enjoy making this for yourself, kids or a friend!

The pattern is simply a knit stitch on circular needles. You only need to be familiar with knitting in the round, cast on, bind off and then follow the guidelines for standard head circumference measurements.

WHAT I USED:

  • 10mm circular needles
  • 2 skeins of contrasting yarns
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors
  • pompom (optional)

Start by casting on the necessary amount of stitches for the head size you’re making. I did a total of 40 for this beanie.

Then, in an 8 row repeat you simply do knit stitches all the way around. 8 rows per color. The height is up to you. You can easily make this a REALLY slouchy beanie or one that is more fitted to the head.

When I shared this photo on Instagram someone suggested adding a red pompom. I thought this was a cute option! At the time of making this I wanted to do a beanie without a pom, but as the designer, the choice is yours!

Once you are done with the rows needed to meet your desired height, you do a simple bind off leaving a long tail.

Taking your tapestry needle and long tail, you will close up the top of the hat. At this point, you can leave it be or add that pom if you like.

That’s it! Pretty easy huh? I just love the look of this style of a beanie. There’s nothing wrong with a little simplistic knit beanie!

I do plan on having these available in my Etsy shop VERY SOON! So be sure to follow me over there for updates on when I have it available. You can also get updates by following me on Instagram.
