I have been loving earrings lately and the more colorful they are, the bigger my smile gets! I’m sharing with you today how to create this simple boho-chic, DIY earring holder for less than $10!

I will be sharing a crochet version of this as well as a non-crochet version of the DIY earring holder. This way, if you’re just a DIYer you’ll still be able to get a similar look without having to know how to crochet!

CROCHET DIY Earring Holder:

  • 5 MM hook (my favorite hook set)
  • size 3 yarn skein or a basic cotton yarn ball like Sugar n Cream (purchase here)
  • Embroidery Hoop of the desired size (get some here)
  • Scissors
  • tapestry needles

Round 1 – Using the magic circle, you will place 6 HDC (half double crochet) inside the ring. Slip stitch to the top of the first HDC. CH 2.

Round 2 – Place 2 HDC in each stitch all the way around for a total of 12 stitches. Slip stitch to the CH 2. CH 2.

Round 3 – *Place 2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from * around for a total of 18 stitches. Slip stitch to the CH 2. CH 2.

Round 4 – *Place 2 HDC into the next stitch. Hdc into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from * around for a total of 24 stitches. Slip stitch to the CH 2. CH 2.

Round 5 – *Place 2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from * around for a total of 30 stitches. Slip stitch to the CH 2. CH 2.

Round 6 – *Place 2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from * around for a total of 36 stitches. Slip stitch to the CH 2. CH 2.

Repeat this increasing process until you have a circle about 1.5″ – 2″ smaller in diameter than your embroidery hoop. Remember, yarn stretches and you’re going to want this circle to be nice and tight around the hoop!

NON – Crochet DIY Earring Holder (for any DIYer):

  • cotton yarn (my favorite options)
  • embroidery hoop of the desired size (check these out)
  • scissors
  • tapestry needle

This technique is fairly simple. What you’re wanting to create is a spiral or sunburst look with the cotton yarn. Somewhat like a dreamcatcher hoop would look. This is the easiest DIY earring holder you’ll ever find!

  1. Take the embroidery hoop and begin by tying a knot around the top of the hoop so as to secure the yarn and tail.
  2. Begin at any point and wrap the yarn all the way around the hoop slowly rotating the hoop clockwise.
  3. Once you’ve wrapped all the way around, back and forth you’re gonna leave a long tail while you tie the yarn securely to any point on the hoop. Once you’re done tying it on, simply snip the tail close to the hoop and you’re done!

This version of the earring holder is easy enough to complete by a kid! So if you have a girl who needs a cute storage option for her earrings, I think she’ll love playing with yarn textures and colors to create the perfect holder!

Other Ideas For Non-Crochet Earring Storage:

  • taking a spool of lace and wrapping it around the inside hoop and then putting it back in place.
  • taking a piece of ace fabric and putting it on the inside hoop just like you would if you were getting ready to embroider.
