NICU Crochet Preemie Hats
After the birth of my first child, without any notice, she was rushed away to NICU because of breathing issues. It was devastating to my new momma heart!
It was a few days before I was able to hold her, but there was one thing I treasured during my moments where I wasn’t able to be with her. It was a beautiful handmade doll donated to the NICU for mothers to have while being away from their babies. I still have it tucked away in my treasure trunk for safe keeping!
I knew I wanted to create something for others to be able to donate to their local NICUs because I cannot emphasize enough how special these handmade items are when you’re walking through a very scary time with your brand new baby.

A Few Requirements For Items Donated To NICU:
- acrylic yarns
- solid colors (no variegated yarns or striped yarns)
- no wool
- bright, cheerful colors

How many stitches and rows for the regular small hat? This an excellent idea. I too had a little one in the NICU and now time to somehow give back!
Just this last couple of months I was told the nicu was not accepting donations of hats and receiving blankets, premature size! I had made a dozen or so!
