Modern Crochet Chevron Blanket FREE Pattern

Blankets are some of my most favorite items to make. One reason is because blankets were the very first projects I made when I began crocheting almost 10 years ago. I love the thought of a little one being wrapped in a blanket I handmade. It’s such a special feeling to be asked to be a part of a person’s life in this way,

I had a customer place a custom order on Instagram for a chevron baby blanket. She sent me photos of the nursery and from those, I was able to choose a color palate and thus this modern chevron design was born!

I’m currently pregnant with a little boy, but I will say I was wanting to keep this beauty for myself and our new little baby. Don’t worry, though, I have been working on the design for our boy nursery and I have a blanket design already in mind! I’ll be sharing this with you too very soon!

The yarn I used comes from the Yarnspirations brand, Caron in the Simply Soft.  I used a total of 8 skeins for this blanket size. I really love this brand for making baby blankets because it is so soft!

Now I am going to share the standard chevron stitch pattern. There are a few variations out there but this is the one I feel works up rather quickly!

~Materials

size I hook (5.5 mm)

8 skeins Caron Simply Soft in colors of your choice (I used pink, white, gray, and dusty rose)

tapestry needle

scissors

~Abbreviations (U.S. Terms)

SC (single crochet)

ST (stitch)

CH (chain)

sc2tog (single crochet 2 together)

Modern Crochet Chevron Baby Blanket Pattern:

For the baby blanket size you will CH 186

You will then sc2tog starting in the 2nd CH from the hook

Then, you will SC in the next 5 CHs

Next, place 3 SC in the next ST

Continue on with a SC in the next 7 CHs

SK 2, *SC in next 7 CHs, 3 SC in next CH, SC in next 7 CHs (repeat from * until you reach the last 7 CHs. Then you will SC in next 5 CHs, and end with a sc2tog, turn and repeat everything all the way across.

***DO NOT CH 1 before or after the turn. I made the mistake of doing this out of habit from other projects and my blanket began to grow in width. Just turn without any CH 1s.

To repeat the same color pattern here is how many rows I did per color:

Pink – 12 rows

White – 6 rows

Gray – 4 rows

White – 6 rows

Dusty Rose – 12 rows

White – 4 rows

Gray – 6 rows

White – 4 rows

(repeat this pattern until your blanket is the desired length.)

I like to finish these types of blankets with simple borders so I did a SC border all the way around. Sewed in my ends and finished it off!

What are the approximate dimensions of this blanket? What multiples would be used if you want to increase the size?

After the first row of sc in the original starting chains, once you turn do you repeat from the sc2tg or from the skip 2
