Hello Yarniac!
I love trying to find creative ways to wear my handmade pieces year round. So this year I decided to create a Beach Cover Up that I think you are gonna love!
DON’T HAVE TIME TO MAKE THE ELIZABETH BEACH COVER UP? PIN THIS IMAGE AND SAVE IT FOR LATER!
I really hope you enjoy making this piece and that you have fun wearing it poolside or at your favorite beach on vacation!
Gather your supplies and let’s get started!
SUPPLIES:
– 5MM crochet hook
– 900-1200 yards of Sport/DK weight yarn. (I used WeAreKnitters Pima Cotton)
– Tapestry Needle
– Scissors
KEY:
Specialty Stitch is the Elizabeth Stitch (ES)
Insert hook, YO, draw up a loop. YO and insert your hook again into the same stitch, YO and draw up a loop. YO and draw through all 4 loops on your hook.
Pattern Notes:
Sizing is based on the following bust sizes
XS – 29″S – 31″M – 37″L – 41″XL – 45″
Sizes are as follows M (XS, X, L, XL)
You will make two identical panels.
Gauge is 16sts (ES + CH 1) X 12rows = 4″ squared
PATTERN
CH 78 (62, 70, 86, 94)
Row 1 – in the 4th CH from the hook work an ES. CH 1 – Skip 1. *ES into the next stitch. CH 1 – Skip 1. Repeat from * across. CH 3. Turn.
Row 2 – ES into the same space as your chain 3. CH 1 – Skip 1. *ES into the next stitch. CH 1 – Skip 1. Repeat from * across. CH 3. Turn.
Rows 3 – 70 (rows 3 – 68, 69, 71, 72): repeat row 2.Tie off.
Make 2 panels.
SEAMING TOGETHER
Laying right sides together you will seam together the shoulders. Starting at the shoulder and working in towards the neck you will seam together the top of the panels for appr. 5 – 8 inches depending on your preference for your head hole.
Armhole/Side Seam:
Next, you will measure down from the shoulder to the top of the side seam. The armhole should be appr. 6 – 10 inches depending on the size of your arm.
SC both panels together all the way down leaving 6 inches unseamed on either side of the tunic.
Once you are done with all the seaming, weave in your ends, flip right side out and enjoy your new piece!
Ulla
Hi Jerica,
thanks so much for this wonderful idea and warm regards from Germany. One small question and while your description of your “Elizabeth stitch” does not sound so complicated : is there a video that explains what you mean?
I suppose YO is Yarn Over?
thanks a lot in advance for your answer and your time and kind regards
Ulla
