PATTERN:
(top of the sock) WHITE YARN
CH 42
R1 – In the 2nd chain from the hook place a SC. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. * SC into the next stitch. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. Repeat from * across. CH 2. Turn.
R2 – (ch 2 counts as SC and CH 1-skip) SC into the CH 1 – skip space from the previous row. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. * SC into the next stitch. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. Repeat from * cross. CH 2. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until your panel measures appr. 10 inches.
(heel) PINK YARN
With right sides facing together, skip first 32 sts of
last row, join hot pink yarn in next st; ch 1, sc in same st and in next
9 sts, bring other side of stocking around and sc in first 11
sts; turn – 21 sts.
Shape Heel
Work short rows as follows:
R1 – Ch 1, sc in first 14 sc; turn.
R2 – Ch 1, sc in first 7 sc; turn.
R3 – Ch 1, sc in first 7 sc, sc in next st of long row
below; turn. – 8 sc.
R4 – Ch 1, sc in first 8 sc, sc in next st of long row
below; turn – 9 sc.
Continue in this manner until all 21 heel sts are worked. Tie off.
(middle foot section) WHITE YARN
Take your heel and fold it and the rest of the sock as though it were seamed. Find the middle stitch on the heel and add your main color back on. CH 2.
From here we will work in the round.
You are going to create a “base” round of SC all the way around coming back to your CH 1 and connecting with a SL ST. Make sure you have an even number of SCs so you can continue with the moss stitch pattern like we did at the top section of the sock.
***BE AWARE***when you get to the section where you need to connect the edge of your heel to the stocking part, be sure to skip 2 stitches. You do this because you want your heel to come around just like on a regular sock you would wear yourself.
Rnd 1 – (ch 2 counts as SC and CH 1-skip) SC into the CH 1 – skip space from the previous row. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. * SC into the next stitch. CH 1 and skip the next stitch. Repeat from * cross. SL ST to the top of the CH 2.
Rnd 2 – 15: repeat round 1. Tie Off.
(toe section) SAME COLOR AS YOUR HEEL
Attach your yarn anywhere and CH 1.
R1 – 2: (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in every stitch all the way around. SL ST to CH 1.
R3 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next 3 sts. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 4 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.
R4 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.
R5 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next 2 sts. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 3 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.
R6 – 7: (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.
R8 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next st. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 2 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.
R9 – : (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.
R10 – CH1, SC2tog all the way around.
***from here you can determine if you want to do another SC round or do another SC2TOG round. It’s up to you!
Tie off.
(ribbed brim) GOLDEN, SPARKLE YARN
CH 20
R1 – HDC in the 3rd CH from the hook. Continue with HDCs all the way across. CH 2. Turn
R2 – 37: (chain 2 counts as first HDC) Place a HDC in the BACK LOOP of every stitch all the way across. CH 2. Turn.
Taking both ends together you will SL ST the ends to create a ribbed band.
You will take your tapestry needle and attach the band to the top of the stocking. I recommend doing this after your have seamed your sock. I also recommend attaching it to the to the sock while the sock is still inside out. This will allow for you to flip the band where it is lying with a “folded over” look.
SEAM
At this point, you are ready to start seaming everything closed and weaving in the ends. I recommend flipping the stocking inside out and doing the seaming. This will allow the outside to look very clean and crisp!
(hair/fringe) CONTRASTING COLORS: BLUE, GREEN, PURPLE
Take strands of yarn approximately 8 inches in length. You will simply attach these all along the edge for the hair or mane of the unicorn. Be sure to interchange your color placement and make it as full as you would like!
EYE DETAILING: BLACK YARN
This section is totally up to you and the look you desire. I created the typical unicorn eye by using the Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in the color black. I used my tapestry needle and created a “smile”. From there I sewed lines to give the look of lashes.
OPTIONAL HANGING RING
If you decide you want to add a ring for hanging, you can crochet 5 SC on the top corner where it would hang. Then, you will CH 9. Then SL ST to the sock and you have created a loop for hanging your stocking!
