Pattern Notes/Tips:
For this blanket you’ll have to pay close attention to your tension. If you happen to be a tight crocheter, I recommend going up one hooks size. When you crochet more tightly it makes the formation of the cables a bit more difficult. I want to make sure you have the easiest time with making this blanket so try out a small swatch (multiple of 9+3) and see if going up a hook size will make this pattern work even better for you.
Cables are made using a combination of FPDC & BPDC.
HDCs are placed in between each of the cables.
Each stripe is a total of 12 rows with the exception of the 1st stripe and last stripe. These will have a few extra so you are able to begin and finish the blanket.
The entire pattern is a 4-row repeat.
Color changes are indicated with (color a)and (color b).

Don’t Have Time To Make The Blanket? No problem! Simply pin the image below and save it for later.
CREATING A BORDER:
If you want to add a border, you can start at any point in the blanket.
Take your crochet hook and insert it into a stitch, put your slip knot on the hook and draw up a loop. Then, do a CH 2. You will proceed all the way around the blanket placing HDCs in each stitch.
Be sure you put 3 HDCs together in each corner to be sure you get a nice, rounded edge.

Thanks Jerica! Very excited to start this! One more question, how much yarn would you estimate would be required for all the sizes you post on your very useful chart? I’m hoping to make the throw size

Thank you for sharing this tutorial! I’ve been knitting since I was a small kiddo but am a complete beginner with crocheting… I happened across this pattern and now want to learn. I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to properly start with the single chain part even though I know it sounds like it should be simple. I think I somehow keep losing stitches in the turns. Do you have an absolute beginner tutorial of how to count and keep to the correct number of chain stitches so I could maybe do a trial square of this pattern before actually starting on the pattern?
Thank you!!
Jerica
I have been toying with the idea of creating a beginner YouTube course for those who are just starting out. I will definitely put this together. If you subscribe to my YouTube channel and allow notifications, you will see exactly when I get those videos loaded.
In the meantime, if you ever have any other questions I am here to help! Don’t hesitate 🙂
Jerica
That is such a great tip! I appreciate your sharing it with me! I will most certainly keep. That in mind for my next tutorial!
Jerica
Woohoo!!!! So glad to hear you got it! That is so awesome!
Helen
Beautiful blanket only one suggestion – for your tutorial you should use a bright coloured yarn – it would be much easier to see the stitches than the dark-coloured yarn you are using. Especially when it comes to the fancy stitches – much easier to see with a light-coloured yarn. Tk u for yr tutorial & pattern – they r awesome but you could make it easier for people to view the video.
Jerica
Thank you so much for your feedback! I appreciate your letting me know what would be more helpful!!! I am glad you enjoyed the pattern ?
Jerica
Oh I am sorry you struggled 🙁
Way to go for figuring it out! I bet your project looks GREAT!!!
Lynn
I am so glad I found this! I am actually focusing on cables right now, even working up my own pattern. It’s a first for me, I am determined to conquer cables and this pattern and video will help perfect my skills in this stitch. Thank you so much!
Jerica
What size are you looking to make? I would love to help as much as I can!
LeRae
I am hoping for a nice size throw, kind of square, nice size but not too huge…to my best guess anyway. Thank you for any assistance!
Eileen
I love this pattern! Do you think it would look good using Homespun Thick and Quick?
Jerica
I DEFINITELY think that would work!I would love to see your finished blanket if you decide to use the Homespun!
Eileen
I tried but I’m still kinda new at crocheting and I just couldn’t see where the stitches were. It’s REALLY Thick and quite fluffy. I used a stitch where you used the spaces instead of the stitches for that yarn. NOW I’m ready to do this one and I’m using Scarfy yarn. The green/black. Should look cool and a bit Celtic. 🙂
Traci
I would love a video as I learn better through a visual demonstration. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful pattern.
Traci
Forgot to ask… is the pattern written in US or UK terms?
Jerica
It is written in US terms! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by
liz McLeod
Love your pattern.
Jerica
Thank you!!! Thanks for commenting too 🙂
April Anderson
Hi Jerica! I would LOVE to see a tutorial of how you hold the yarn in your left fingers and yarn over the crochet hook! I’m a new crocheter and have not seen the way that you crochet anywhere else. Thank you so much!!

Danielle
This is beautiful and I’m so glad you made the video!! I was struggling with Row 2 & 3 with the written pattern because the cables weren’t lining up, but the video helped me find what was wrong. I think there’s a typo in the written pattern?? (Or I’m just reading it wrong!)
Row 2’s description asks for a repeat of 15 stitches [6+3+6] according to the asterisks. {* bpdc around the next 6 posts. Hdc into each of the next 3 sts. Bpdc around the next 6 posts. * repeat from * to *}. But you video shows it’s actually a repeat of 9 stitches [6+3] which makes so much more sense when you get to Row 3!!
I just thought I’d share in case I’m right and fixing that might help others. I scrapped 4 times before I figured it out! lol 😊
