GET THE AD-FREE PDF DOWN BELOW FOR $2.99

MATERIALS:

2 skeins of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn. (whatever ever contrasting colors you would like)

5.5 MM Hook

Tapestry Needle

Scissors

CROCHET TERMS:

CH (chain)

SC (single crochet)

DC (double crochet)

FPtrC (front post triple crochet)

BPtrC (back post triple crochet)

SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together)

PATTERN NOTES:

This pattern is written in US terms.

If you notice, this design is the same stitch I used for the ALPINE BLANKET.

For that pattern, I created a video tutorial for those who need more of a visual aid while learning a new stitch. Take a look at the video if you start to have any trouble with the stitch.

THE PATTERN:

(top of the sock)

CH 42

R1 – In the 4th CH from the hook place a DC. DC in every stitch all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

R2 – (ch 2 counts as DC). *FPtrC into the next stitch. DC into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way across ending with a DC in the last stitch. CH 1. Turn.

R3 – (ch 1 counts as SC). SC in each stitch all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

R4 – (ch 2 counts as DC). *DC into the next stitch. FRtrC into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way across ending with a DC in the last stitch. CH 1. Turn.

R5 – (ch 1 counts as SC). SC in each stitch all the way across. CH 2. Turn.

R6 – 28: repeat rows 2 – 5. Tie Off.

(heel)

With right sides facing together, skip first 32 sts of
last row, join hot pink yarn in next st; ch 1, sc in same st and in next
9 sts, bring other side of stocking around and sc in first 11
sts; turn – 21 sts.

Shape Heel
Work short rows as follows:
R1 –  Ch 1, sc in first 14 sc; turn.
R2 –  Ch 1, sc in first 7 sc; turn.
R3 –  Ch 1, sc in first 7 sc, sc in next st of long row
below; turn. – 8 sc.
R4 –  Ch 1, sc in first 8 sc, sc in next st of long row
below; turn – 9 sc.

Continue in this manner until all 21 heel sts are worked. Tie off.

(middle section of the foot)

Take your heel and fold it and the rest of the sock as though it were seamed. Find the middle stitch on the heel and add your main color back on. CH 2.

From here we will work in the round.

You are going to create a “base” round of SC all the way around coming back to your CH 1 and connecting with a SL ST. Make sure you have an even number of SCs so you can continue with the moss stitch pattern like we did at the top section of the sock.

***BE AWARE***when you get to the section where you need to connect the edge of your heel to the stocking part, be sure to skip 2 stitches. You do this because you want your heel to come around just like on a regular sock you would wear yourself.

Rnd 1 – CH 1. SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

Rnd 2 – CH 2. DC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 2.

Rnd 3 – CH 2. *DC in the next stitch. BPtrC into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 2.

Rnd 4 – CH 1. SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

Rnd 5 – CH 2. *BPtrC in the next stitch. DC into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 2.

Rnd 6 –  CH 1. SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

Rnd 7 – 14: Repeat rows 3 – 6. Tie Off.

(toe area)

R1 – 2: (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in every stitch all the way around. SL ST to CH 1.

R3 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next 3 sts. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 4 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

R4 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.

R5 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next 2 sts. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 3 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

R6 – 7: (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.

R8 – (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC in the next st. *SC2TOG (single crochet 2 together). SC in the next 2 sts. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1.

R9  – : (ch 1 counts as first SC). SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH1.

R10 – CH1, SC2tog all the way around.

***from here you can determine if you want to do another SC round or do another SC2TOG round. It’s up to you!

Tie off

(dino spikes)

***use a contrasting yarn from the main body of the stocking***

CH 2

R1 – HDC in the 2nd CH from the hook. CH 2. Turn.

R2 – HDC into the same stitch as the CH 2. HDC across. Place 2 HDC in the last stitch. CH 2. Turn.

R3 – 6: repeat row 2. Tie Off.

SEAM

At this point, you are ready to start seaming everything closed and weaving in the ends. I recommend flipping the stocking inside out and doing the seaming. This will allow the outside to look very clean and crisp! ***Don’t forget to attach your spikes!

OPTIONAL HANGING RING

If you decide you want to add a ring for hanging, you can crochet 5 SC on the top corner where it would hang. Then, you will CH 9. Then SL ST to the sock and you have created a loop for hanging your stocking!
