The Left Twist Knit Stitch with Video Tutorial!
Today’s post is short but sweet! I wanted to share with you this amazing new knitting stitch I learned.
It is on the more difficult side of stitch patterns, however, with some practice the result is totally worth it! I have an infinity scarf in mind using this stitch and I’m dreaming of a lovely silk yarn to do it in.
Once I have the pattern written I will be sharing it here with you! So be sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out! You can subscribe right after you finish the rest of this post!
WHAT I USED:
- size 9 needles
- 1 skein yarn
- scissors
I knew I was wanting to play around with this stitch more than anything when I grabbed this skein of yarn. It’s described as a “scratchy” yarn and not really one I would use to gift with. However, the colors are gorgeous!!! I’m looking for something equally as beautiful colorwise to make an infinity scarf with.
Some other project ideas which I believe would be gorgeous using this stitch would be…
- a chunky throw pillow
- a sweater
- infinity scarf
- blanket or throw made with a large chunky yarn

Really the possibilities are endless! I do recommend getting a practice skein of yarn to try this stitch out on first. Within the first hour of starting this pattern, I had frogged more times than I wanted too!
Give this one some time to master. It will be totally worth it in the end!
The textures are gorgeous and I love the movement created by each of the twisted ribs. It is really stunning and on the right project could be an even more beautiful!
THE STITCH PATTERN:
Cast on a Multiple of 7 + 2
***pattern note: LT refers to left twist – skip next stitch on left needle, knit into the back loop of the second stitch, leaving stitch on the needle. Then bring the right needle to the front of the left needle and knit into the skipped stitch. Lastly, pull both loops off of the left needle.
R1 and all WS Rows: k2 *p5, k2
R2 : p2 *LT, k3, p2
R4 : p2 *k1, LT, k2, p2
R6 : p2 *k2, LT, k1, p2
R8 : p2 *k3, LT, p2
Repeat these 8 rows for the pattern.
That’s it!

you are so very welcome!
An interesting stitch I plan to use on the body of my next top-down baby sweater. Thanks so much.
Oh, I bet it will be a lovely sweater!!! I’d love to see it when you’ve finished 🙂
Oh my, what a beautiful impressive stitch. I’m a new to knit and crochet, yes, a how to video would be so helpful. I’d love to knit pillows and a throw here and there.
Thanks for stopping by! I will most certainly add this stitch to my filming list! Be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel and you’ll be notified as soon as I get the video uploaded!
Love the pattern, and would be interested in your video. Thanks so much!
Your video does not follow your written LT explanation “Then slip the first stitch purlwise, and drop the second stitch from left needle.” You show knitting the 1st stitch not slipping it Purl wise.
I am confused.
I LOVE this stitch!!! ❤
However…I agree… Written directions do NOT match the video… I’m confused too 😳
Good Tutorial. Love the stitch. Would like to watch your next Tutorial on another NEW STITCH.. Thank you .
You wrote the pattern but they are rows missing. Can you shared again with the 8 rows please.
Hi there, For the missing rows, they are wrong side (WS) rows so you’ll just need to repeat R1 for R3, R5, and R7. Happy Knitting!
Add odd rows are the same as row one. Designer just had not written it out… Read row onw… All odd WS – wronf side rows are the same. 😊
Nice tutorial, very clear, and I like that you show some confusion, as it makes it more “real.” Can’t wait to try to stitch on a new project.
yay!!!
Beautiful stitch and explanation. Can we ask what the pretty greyish blue yarn with color flecks is? I like it too.
Thank you for the video. I love that you do several rows and go over the LT thoroughly. I’m a beginner and I got it… 🧶🧤🧣
Thank you! Your kind words mean the world to us makers! Happy Knitting!
Wonderful tutorial. (Nice, too, that you hold your yarn in your right hand, as I do, though I bring mine forward AS I knit each stitch rather than as a separate step.) Your directions were easy to follow and agreed precisely with the written directions so far as I could see.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
You Are an excellent teacher! I tried it without the video… Epic fail… after your video it was so easy.
🙂
How would you do a Right twist. I want to make a back of a wrap with the twist going left n right. So far I have not been able to create that. Help!!!!g
Love the video! YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER, THE PATTERN LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND AFTER WATCHING THE. VIDEO, I THINK I CAN DO IT. CAN’T WAIT.
Rows 3 5 7 are the same has row 1
