I have been working as fast as my fingers would allow these last several weeks creating some really amazing pieces for you all!
Since we are right on the cusp of Fall I thought it only appropriate to design for you all an amazing piece which would transition you from cool Summer nights into windy Fall days. This piece is named The Zara Pullover because Zara actually means transition.
Now, I had the incredible opportunity to make this garment using the lovely Lion Brand JEANS yarn! It was an absolute delight to work with. The texture was extremely soft and the color was simply stunning!
I loved working with it and at the end of this post, you will have a chance to enter my Lion Brand JEANS yarn giveaway so you can make a Zara Pullover using this exact same yarn!
Let’s get Started!
- size I hook
- 6 skeins of JEANS yarn (appr. 1100 yards in size 4 yarn) this would make an L/XL Zara Pullover
- Tapestry Needle
SC (single crochet)
DC (double crochet)
SL ST (slip stitch)
This pattern is worked in one solid piece just like the Twiggy Tunic. You will begin with the front panel then create the head hole and then make the back piece. This piece is easily adjustable for all sizes. Measure your chest vertically to decide how many rows you need to make for the front and back panels.
***work in a multiple of 5 + 2
Row 1 – In the 3rd Ch from the hook place a DC. DC in the next ST. * CH 2 while skipping over the next 2 STS. Place a DC in the next 3 STS. Repeat from * all the way across until the last 2 STS. You will end with placing 2 DCs instead of the repeat of 3. CH 1. Turn.
Row 2 – Skipping the next ST place 5 DC into the CH 2 space of the previous row. Skip the next DC ST and place a SC into the next ST. * Place 5 DC into the next CH 2 space. Skip the next DC ST and place a SC into the next ST. Repeat from * all the way across ending with a SC in the last ST. CH 3. Turn.
Row 3 – Skipping the first DC ST from the previous row, place a DC into the next 3 STS. * CH 2 while skipping over the next 3 STS. Place a DC into the next 3 STS. Repeat from * all the way across until the last 2 STS. You will CH 1 while skipping 1 STS and place a DC into the last ST. CH 2. Turn.
Row 4 – Place 2 DC into the same CH 2 space. * Skip the next ST. Place a SC into the next ST. Skip the next ST. Place 5 DC into the next CH 2 space. Repeat from * all the way across. Place 3 DC in the last ST. CH 2. Turn.
Row 5 – Place a DC into the next ST. * CH 2 while skipping the next 3 STS. Place a DC into the next 3 STS. Repeat from * all the way across. End with a DC in the last 2 STS.
Rows 6 – 33 you will repeat rows 2 – 5
Row 34 – SC all the way across. CH 1. Turn.
Row 35 – SC in the next 45 STS. CH 45 while skipping over the next 45 STS. SC in the next 45 STS.
Row 36 – SC all the way across. CH 2. Turn.
Row 37 – Repeat row 1
Row 38 – 69 repeat rows 2 – 5 for the remaining rows.
Next, you are going to seam the sides together. You can determine on your own how wide you would like your arm holes. I made mine approximately 8 inches wide. Turning the Zara inside out you will use your tapestry needle to seam the sides closed.
After weaving in your ends I HIGHLY recommend blocking this piece. The stitches show even better once they have been blocked.
I hope you enjoy this design as much as I loved creating it for you all!
