It’s time for yet another great beanie pattern!
Today I am sharing with you this super textured, slouchy beanie. It uses a puff stitch and provides lots of character. I really love how the stitches pop in this particular yarn color. If you’re interested in using this exact yarn it is from JoAnn’s in their line BigTwist.
You can easily replicate this beanie using any chunky (size 5) yarn. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick would be great too!
- 1 skein chunky yarn
- L Hook
- tapestry needle
SC (single crochet)
DC (double crochet)
SL ST (slip stitch)
PST (puff stitch)

Row 2 – 44: HDC in the BACK LOOPS all the way across. CH 2. Turn.
Join the brim by bringing the ends together and making a slip stitch across, Flip right side out and CH 1.
***From here we will be working in the round to create the body of the beanie.
Rnd 1 – SC all the way around. BE SURE to maintain a multiple of 4. SL ST to the top of the CH 1. CH 3
Rnd 2 – *DC in next ST, CH 1, skip next ST, PST in next ST, CH 1, skip next ST; Repeat from *to last 2 sts, DC in last 2 sts; CH 1.
Rnd 3 – SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1. CH 3.
Rnd 4 – 11 : REPEAT rnds 2 & 3
Rnd 12 – 14: SC all the way around. SL ST to the top of the CH 1. Tie off after round 14 and leave a long tail.
CLOSING THE TOP:
Using your long tail you will weave in and out of the sts at the top of the beanie. You will then pull the top closed and sew together the remaining space. At this point, you could leave the beanie as-is or add a pom to the top!
