I have been knitting for almost 2 years now. I honestly taught myself through a ton of trial and error as well as filtering through countless videos on YouTube.
Not every video tutorial is a good let me just say.
I knew I wanted to create a pattern that was simple but offered a ton of visual texture and was comfy too! If you’ve been here before and looked at any of my patterns I tend to choose certain things based off of how they look visually.
I decided to go with a 100% Wool yarn this time around. The gal I made this one for lives out on a farm. There will definitely be cold nights where having a snuggly blanket like this will be perfect for wrapping up her soon to arrive little one!
I really like the speckles of different colors that are sprinkled throughout this particular yarn as well.
Here is what I used:
- size 13 needles
- 4 skeins of yarn (purchased at Walmart)
- Tapestry needle
- scissors
I used the garter stitch which is literally one of the easiest stitches to use to create a blanket really fast! It’s just a knit stitch all the way across on both sides of the work!
You don’t even need to know how to purl!
It’s amazing because of how textured the work winds up looking yet you’re only doing the knit stitch.
The Pattern:
Cast on 72
R1 – Knit St all the way across
R2 – Knit St all the way across
***continue until you have added all 4 skeins of yarn! If you wanted to make this blanket a little longer so as to cover a toddler bed you could add on 6-8 skeins.
Now you tell me this isn’t a super simple knit blanket pattern!
Now if you don’t know how to knit but you REALLY LOVE this blanket I have some great news for you! I make and sell all of my items you see here on the blog! I know there are many out there who can’t knit, crochet or sew but you love handmade products.
I’ve thought of you and that is why I have this blanket along with all of my other handmade items you’ve seen here available for purchase in my Etsy shop!
If you decide to make this one for yourself I would LOVE to see your finished product! Share it down below or email me :

Hello, I am looking to teach myself how to knit and want to start with a blanket. This looks like the perfect pattern! If you were to make this for an adult, how would you adjust the pattern? Double the cast?

I will have a full pattern pdf available soon (within a week) that will have all the details to make multiple sizes with stitch counts, yardage and more!

I would love to make this blanket but I need to use size 8 circular needles. What yarn should I use and how many stitiches should I cast on.
Thanks

Hi! I will have a fully detailed PDF pattern available very soon which will contain all the information to make any size you’d want!

Can straight needles be used on the blanket or would circular needles be bettter?
AdThrive User
That’s a preference in my opinion. I like to use circular needles on blankets since it’s easier to ensure the stitches don’t slip off. But straight needles for a baby-sized blanket would still work too!

Hi! Thanks for commenting! I’m currently creating a full pattern PDF with multiple sizes and all the details needed to make the size you want!
I used the Lion brand wool ease thick and quick in the colorway Hudson Bay. It’s a super bulky size 6 yarn weight.

Hi I am looking for this exact yarn! I am knitting a scarf but ran out before I finished it and was wondering if you had any information on it !?

I love this choice. I was looking at that yarn and couldn’t picture how it would look. Love it! I’ll be trying it next.
