Recently on Instagram I stumbled across Phanessa’s post about a gorgeous chunky hat she had made for her son.
She was so gracious to put this pattern to paper and offer it for free on her site!
It is a super easy pattern to make and I think you will enjoy making a few for yourself. I was glad to come across it! My 2 older boys have been asking me to make them a hat because I had made the slouchy beanie and chunky ear warmer for my girls.
When I saw her little guy modeling this one I knew it would be perfect!
My oldest son’s favorite color is red. Whenever he goes with me to the yarn store he ALWAYS picks up at least a dozen or so red yarns and asks for me to make something.
I knew this wool-ease Lions Brand yarn would be perfect!
Once you start this hat you quickly realize this baby will work up faster than an episode of Downton Abbey!
One thing I did a little differently on the pattern was make the hat a little longer so that I could have my boys fold over the brim if they wanted to wear it that way too.
This is an option but not something you have to do!
I know this hat looks great in the color combo the designer chose for hers but honestly the possibilities are endless! Making your pompom a nice contrasting color is something simply you can do without adding two colors into your hat.
I really love how it turned out and I know I will be making a few more in the future! They are really sturdy for energetic boys and when using a wool yarn they are great for keeping them warm as they run about on those cold winter days!
If you head over to Phanessa’s and use her pattern be sure to tell her who sent you! I know she would love to have you follow her on Instagram too! She is constantly inspiring me and I know her feed wouldn’t disappoint you!
