I recently picked up some Shawl in a Ball from Lion Brand and I fell absolutely in LOVE! The texture of this yarn is so delicate yet the colorways are bold and beautiful.
I had asked our Facebook group which style of scarf they liked. The options were:
- Jumbo
- Triangle
- Regular
I had many say they loved the triangle style and with that, the idea for this design was born.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
- 5MM hook
- 1 skein of Shawl in a Ball (appr. 481 yards if using a different yarn)
- scissors
- tapestry needle
Need more visual guidance while making the c2c triangle scarf?
I have more scarf patterns for you if you’d like to check them out!
THE PATTERN:

***how to make the tassels are included in the video instructions***
Using the c2c method, we are going to simply start from the corner going wider and wider until we are just about out of yarn.
Now for this pattern, we are not going to be decreasing. We are only increasing. Once you get the length you will simply tie off (be sure to leave enough yarn to make tassels) and then you’re done!
Below you will find a pictorial of how to do the c2c stitch and of course, you can check out the video for more visual learning!

Beautiful work, thank you for the video!!!
Jerica
You bet! Thanks!
Daryl
How much yarn do you save for the tassels or do you make them first?
Jerica
Making them first is best! Sometimes it depends on how fluffy you want your tassels too. You could eyeball how much you would need and then wait until afterward!
Patricia Douglass
Is there a video on making the tassels?
Jerica
I haven’t made one but will create one this week! Be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel so you can be notified whenever I upload the video!

I’ve bought several different colors of shawl in a ball. Didn’t like pattern on wrapper. For 1st one im using a lean stick tripled width for more of a wrap. . This one im trying next.thanks for video and patterrn

Lovely pattern. I picked up a ball of Shawl in a Ball at the store because I loved the colors. I didn’t care for the pattern on the band and tried some other patterns but nothing was working out. FinallyI stumbled on to your pattern on Ravelry and I am so happy with how it is working out. Thanks again for your lovely pattern.

Thank you so much for the great video, I am new at trying to interpret patterns and the video was very helpful… I am absolutely in love with this yarn and this pattern and have made several of the scarves and each one is so exciting to see how the colors are going to come out… I haven’t tried the tassels yet but I’m going to do that on my next one… I find myself looking for different colors Of that yarn every time I go to a different store, did I say I was in love??!!

I get so many compliments on this shawl. I always get asked where did I get it. Of course, I made it. Love the pattern!!!
Lori
You make it look so easy! Thank you for demo. I’m ready to start now and having this video helps me know what it’s supposeto look like. Being a newbie to crochet I find many patterns do not have a diagram which makes it hard to know where I’m starting from. This shows me exactly what to do.
Caryolin
This video is very helpful, thanks. I do not crochet very often, going to do this pattern.

I love this, I’m currently making a shawl using the shade healing teal, my first of this range. This has become my favourite yarn now! What shade did you use for this shawl? The yellow in it is gorgeous.
Stephanie
I am wondering if you have a count of your last row? I didn’t make my tassels first!! And I love how big yours are!!!
Julie
Hi Stephanie, Thank you! I ended with 43 little rectangles going across the top row. I hope that helps! Happy Hooking!
Vilu
I would love to know the color yarn you have used. I’m in love with that color scheme and especially the gold.
Julie
Me too! I believe it is peaceful earth colorway. I’m sorry I can’t be more exact as it was designed a time ago.
Cathy S
Hi Julie! I’m using Shawl-in-a-Ball for the first time, and found your pattern very appealing. What was the width of the triangle across the top and how much of a single skein did you use? I’m not planning to add the tassels, but will use the whole skein in the triangle. How wide do you think my shawl will be? Thanks for your help!
Cathy S
What is the finished width of this piece? How much of the skein did you use to complete it?
Julie
Hi Cathy, It’s approx 44 inches wide and 22 inches tall. Almost and entire skein was used.
Cathy S
Thanks, Julie!
Lara
Hi! Thank you for your tutorial! As a new crocheter I need super basic instructions and your tutorial was simple enough for me to follow. I made your pattern with Caron Cakes Latte and it turned out beautifully. However, I just received my first Shawl in a Ball by Lion Brand and it seems so thin, almost like one ply, and certainly not a weight of 4. But, I am so new I have no idea what to compare it. Parts of the yarn are very thin and only parts are fuzzy, like your shawl pictured above. My question is, did I get a bum skein of yarn? I tried to contact Lion Brand customer service and am not having any luck. Thank you for any advice you can give me,
Lara
Jerica
Hi Lara! First, let me say “Thank you!” for your kind words regarding this design. If you hang around my website and social media platforms for a while you will notice I tend to use hook sizes beyond what the yarn might recommend. This is simply due to the fact I am aiming to achieve a certain look with the yarn. There may be times where the recommended hooks size works, but often, I opt for going with something else. Shawl in a ball is definitely a fine, more thin yarn. However, you can certainly accomplish what I was able to by following the same instructions you did for the scarf made using caron cakes. I hope that helps! Thanks again for stopping by! If you have a good email, I will reach out to my contact at LionBrand and see if we can remedy the situation for you! Just email me: yarnhookneedles@gmail.com and put “lion brand order help” in the subject line 🙂
REBECCA LEON
hi! lovely shawl. I love that it’s only one skein. I just finished it. MY SKEIN TOOK ME TO 45 ROWS (45 BOXES ACROSS THE TOP). 26inches from corner to top, and about 52inches across the top. AM SKIPPING THE TASSLES. was wondering if it has to be blocked so it gets a little biggger? thank you in advance!
REBECCA LEON
not sure why all those caps.. apologies, i didn’t have the caps lock on either.
