I love simple, easy and frugal projects! This is most definitely one of them.
You don’t need any fancy tools, or more than a few bucks. This project can literally be done by a child if need be!
A while back I found a tutorial by the wonderful gals over at Shanty2Chic. Their stuff is always fabulous and easy without breaking the bank.
I knew I wanted something simple and functional for my kid’s rooms so they could have a neat space for displaying their books.
This ledge was the perfect solution!
It offers a library style display so you can easily see the front of the book. You can also move them around without having to “stuff” them into a bookshelf.
In a way, it provides instant artwork with books being displayed from the front rather than from the spine.
Here are the material photos and the after pics.
Tomorrow I will be posting my frugal boy’s bedroom reveal and these shelves will be up on the wall!
As you can see, several of these ledges can be put together rather quickly! You just need:
- finishing nails
- wood glue
- two 1×4
- one 1×2
You place the smaller board in the front and the other two are the bottom and back pieces.
If you’re new to DIY projects, I highly recommend this simple one as a starter. Or, if you have a boy or girl in your house who is eager to build things, this project simple enough for them to complete with a little supervision.
