Today I am sharing a gorgeous knit stitch I discovered. While it may look complicated you will be surprised how easy it is to do!
I opted to create a very textured cowl with it and I absolutely love the result! Once you get a hang of the pattern this project works up really easy and fast. I was able to do this cowl in less than 3 hours.
That’s with learning a brand new stitch!
When I first started knitting I was so intimidated with stitches like this. I would look at the photos and think, “There’s no WAY I could do something like that!” but, with a little determination and the reality that I will most likely have to frog projects at times, I have fallen in LOVE with trying new patterns out.
This approach has also helped me in diving into the world of pattern designing. While I am no Jessica from the hook nook I still have been pleasantly surprised but what I have been able to create so far!
WHAT I USED:
- size 9 needles
- 1 skein of Red Heart yarn (size 4)
- Scissors
- Crochet Hook 3.75MM
- Tapestry Needle
I started by casting on 29
This pattern works in multiples of 6 + 5.
PATTERN NOTES:
The “uls” term is describing the knit stitch you work “under the slipped stitches”
Also for this pattern, you are working with a 12-row repeat. For the length of this cowl, I did appr. 180 individual rows. This may seem like a lot but when you’re working with this large of a row repeat it doesn’t seem like that much.
This is worked in a long rectangle and then seamed together. If you would like to work the cowl in the round you could cast on 180 and omit the +5

Nice pattern, thank you very much for posting..
There is no explanation for the “uls” stitch, or why a crochet hook is needed.
However this stitch somewhat resembles the Butterfly stitch, so I believe I can work it out.

the “uls” stitch is meant to be a knit stitch worked under the slipped stitches. I have added that note into the pattern. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! 🙂
