I am a huge fan of deer silhouette art! I love the pillows with the flannel piece on the front. I also love them hand painted on to canvases!
I was inspired to create this by all of the amazing pins I see on Pinterest. I went to the local craft store and scored big time when I found a pack of 2 burlap canvases for less than $6! The wooden deer head I snagged for $5.99 with an additional 40% off.
The glitter and modge podge were items I already had on hand.
- Canvas of some type
- Wooden Deer Head Silhouette
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
I started by removing the wall hanging attachment from the back of the wooden deer head. I took the hardware and attached it to the burlap canvas so I would easily be able to hang it.
Now if you’re going to use this as mantle decor you wouldn’t to do this. I would recommend saving the hardware because you could use it for future projects!
Waste not, want not!
I then applied the modge podge glue generously all over the surface of the deer head. Make sure you cover it fully. After I initially dropped the excess glitter off I realized there were a few spots I had missed. I had to go back and recover those areas and it was a little messy.
Just pay attention and cover it really good!
Once the glue is all over sprinkle on whatever gorgeous glitter color you have chosen! I really like the square glitter containers from Walmart. I think they’re cute and they have a good amount of glitter in them for their price.
They have a decent variety of colors to choose from as well!
Once I dumped off the excess glitter I used the hot glue gun and placed the glue on the back of the deer head. Be careful so as not to mess up your glitter!
I then eyeballed it and placed the head on the canvas.
It was REALLY THAT EASY!
I think I might eventually frame it out with white wood. I haven’t decided yet. Either way I LOVE the way it turned out! I think it is something bright and cheerful and I feel like you could leave this up all year round.
Other ideas would be…
- a plain white canvas with red glitter for the deer head
- green or black glitter on a white canvas
- paint the canvas black and do white or silver glitter.
- white and navy blue combo would be pretty too!
The options are endless!
I want to always encourage my readers to make the things you love! Fill your home with all of your handmade items and love them! You don’t have to be crafty to make projects like these. You just have to be willing to try and fail every now and then! 🙂
